MMIWP: Remember who we are meant to be
Do you ever wonder where you might be, or where your life might go if racism wasn't around?
Well, I know a lot of people that do. And for those that don't, I urge you to look inside yourself, and see who you could be... that is who you're meant to be. The life and pleasures that we are so inclined to, and take advantage of daily are things you and I can help others achieve. If we use our creativity to beat the odds, we can do anything. Did you know that, according to the National Institute of Justice, there is in short, "no reliable count of how many Native American go missing or are killed each year." In short, meaning, a lot of Native women are killed per year, and there is no understanding as to how many. I don't know about you, but sounds like a load of malarky. In addition, almost half of American Indian and Native Alaskan women said they experienced violence, including, 14.4% of those women saying that they experienced sexual violence (within that category of violence).
I think that there is a disconnect between what the world aims to see as a non-majority and majority. Because the numbers don't lie. However, despite the numbers, 4,200 of murder and missing persons cases have gone unsolved within the ethnicity of Alaskan and Native Americans. It may seem like this may not be targeted, but please look at the history of Alexei Navalny, Tamir Rice, the Dakota 38, and many more who have been at the mercy of white supremacy and racism. In my opinion it seems as though not tracking missing persons on a federal roster after some time, is a hate crime. These cases haven't been acquited for, but yet we allow these injustices continue to spread like wildfire. Look at Breonna Taylor. She is proof that we cannot let this prejudice take form, we have to cease it to exist at its' roots. Back to Europes' Hitler, who tried to genocide an entire people. We have to realize that the root of racism isn't just stealing away our rights, yet, it is something that ceases to exist when the people come together and are with each other, fighting these injustices, as they arise. We are stronger together, and creating an evident future where we can all join in the fight to erase the history of white supremacy. We can do all of this by believing in a bright future for, not just ourselves, but an entire planet of people who know and are sure of their identity within society, and not ashamed of it, but empowered by it.
Our identity is who we all are idividually supposed to be. Whether its' an astronaut, a cook, an entertainer. We all should look within and kindly ask, "who would I be if no societal constraints, got in my way?" I'm sure we could all make this place a better place to live, if we just existed as a common friend, who we one day will return to the Earth the same way we got here. The soles of this Earth could be gone at any moment, and to fight against the odds of racism at its core, might just be what stands in the way of our limited future.
Stay safe and journey on, through this life, and stop caring so much what others will think, when you do the right thing for someone other than yourself.
Stay selfless.
